What we collect
We don’t collect anything on our own servers. PRAY has no account and no backend of its own. What the app stores, it stores in its own private storage on your phone:
- Your first name, if you give one — used for greetings in the app, never sent anywhere
- The answers you tap (feelings, life areas, subjects on your heart), and the patterns the app draws from them to choose verses and prayers
- Your progress: streaks, medals, challenge days and when you prayed
- Your settings, including theme, prayer times, reminders and Veil mode
- Prayers you report, with the reason you chose, so they can be reviewed
PRAY contains no advertising identifier, no analytics and no crash-reporting service.
How it’s used
Everything above is used on your phone, to run the app for you. Nothing leaves the device except in one case: when AI personalisation is switched on, the app sends a request to Google’s Gemini to write that day’s prayer.
That request contains only structured details chosen by the app: your language, today’s verse and its reference, the time of day, and the labels of the options you tapped (such as a feeling or a life area), and short theme tags drawn from your earlier answers. It never contains your name, your prayer history or anything you typed.
The app asks for your permission before the first request. If you decline, PRAY uses its library of written prayers and nothing is sent. You can change your mind at any time in Settings.
Because prayer can reveal religious beliefs, we treat all of this as special-category data under the GDPR and rely on your explicit consent (Article 9(2)(a)).
| Data | Where it goes | Kept for |
|---|---|---|
| Answers, progress and settings | Your device only | Until you delete the app or its data |
| Prayer request summary | Google Gemini, only if you opt in | As set by Google’s Gemini API terms |
Third parties
Google Gemini API writes prayers when AI personalisation is on. Google processes these requests under the Gemini API Additional Terms and the Google Privacy Policy.
Google Play distributes the app. Google handles downloads, updates and any reviews under its own policies.
Android backup. If backup is turned on for your Google account, Android may include PRAY’s data in your device backup. That backup is managed by Google, not by us.
Your rights
Because there is no account, we cannot see or look up your data — it is on your phone, under your control. Clearing the app’s storage or uninstalling PRAY deletes all of it. Turning off AI personalisation stops any further requests to Gemini.
You still have every right the GDPR gives you, including to ask us questions about how the app works, and to complain to the Office of the Data Protection Ombudsman in Finland (tietosuoja.fi).
PRAY is not directed at children under 13.
